Manually select upsell items? Upsell Manager?

I've been experimenting with the Upsell Manager for the past couple weeks and have become nothing but increasingly frustrated with it. Our main goal is to upsell a specific category of items to customers in the shopping cart. Basically, no matter what they add to their cart, we could like to push our logo wear as a possible add-on. This, however, is proving unnecessarily difficult because of the way the Upsell Manager appears to work. The wizard only seems to be useful for creating customer lists and now for actually selecting which items to upsell in the shopping cart of
