Slow webpage load times - anyone tried a content delivery network (CDN)?

Hi everyone,
We've been plauged with slow load times on our website since going live on NetSuite, despite having a dedicated server. We have a case open with NetSuite and they claim that the images are mostly to blame. However, they're not excessively large images (in file size).

We're wondering if any other NetSuite clients have used a Content Delivery Network (Akamai comes to mind, but there are plenty of others out there). Have you had any success with them? Have you run into any issues or security concerns/roadblocks while considering one?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.
