Unable to pull parent externalid

Well.  I make a simply call for Customer A ... the parent/@internalid is populated, but the parent/@externalid is not.  And yes .. the parent Customer record does indeed have an externalid.  Ugly ... I need to make ANOTHER call back to netsuite with the parent/@internalid to get its externalid.  Have I missed something?  Why wouldnt if come across with the child record?  :h_a_w:
