Does Scriptable Cart work with Suitecommerce API?

Does anyone know if Scriptable Cart works with the suitecommerce API? I posted this question in the suitescript forum but didn't get a reply.

If I trigger the addItem API, will that trigger a validate line event? Similarly if I trigger a order.submit call will that trigger the onsave event?

I know scriptable cart works with the basic site builder but I haven't been able to use it with the Suitecommerce API.
