Shopping cart total with VAT?

Using an external website we use the script to generate the total of shopping basket: It seems only to be possible to display the total without VAT. We display our item prices with VAT and for obvious reasons would like the shopping basket total to show the total including VAT. Does anyone have advice on how to achieve that?
