Add a new status to Sales Orders

Does anyone know if there is a way to add a new status to a sales order. We have Pending Approval and Pending Fulfillment but were hoping to add a status that sales reps could use as a holding status before pending approval. This would be used by our sales reps when they have enetered a sales order but it is not yet ready to go for approval.
