Mass Update of Amortization/Rev Rec Schedules - Misrepresentation of Data

edited Jul 5, 2012 5:27PM in Accounting / ERP 1 comment

I was testing the Mass Update of amortization schedules today, and noticed system behavior that I think is at least confusing, if not simply incorrect.

Background: NetSuite provides the option to mass update existing amortization or revenue recognition schedules.  This allows you to set an "Is Recognized" flag to True for the remaining unrecognized lines (usually periods) of any schedule.

I expected that this would also create an associated journal entry, moving the remaining deferred balance to the expense account in the current period.  This doesn't happen.  Whatever hasn't already been recognized is left in the deferred account, and you need to do a manual journal entry to move it.  I don't see how this makes sense, unless you're doing a data migration.  But that's not the confusing part, being able to do that would be a nice to have, but I'm fine with it being an enhancement.

Howdy, Stranger!
