Drop-shipping kitted items

We are experiencing an issue with kits as they can not be used on Purchase Orders. Does anyone run into this issue? Besides unkitting the item on the PO, do you know of another way to handle it? Our main problem is with drop-ships. The customer places an order for a kitted item. Currently, when we try to drop ship the order (create a drop-ship PO from the sales order) we first have to remove the kitted item from the sales order and change it to the components.
