Added a column field to an invoice, now NS won't create a pdf

When we print we receive a 'null'.

Specifically, on our sales order we added a tax_amount column to each line item. The formula for which is {amount}*{taxrate}. When we select the column to be added to the invoice via a custom invoice, it does not print properly. Does anyone know why this may occur?
