Access SO user notes using suitescript

Any ideas how to programmatically retrieve user notes in SuiteScript for Sales Orders?

When viewing a SO record, there is no 'usernotes' sublist available (as documented in the SuiteScript records browser). I also looked at just performing a search on 'Note' records, but there is no way to search based on transaction id. 

I found this post regarding how to use usernotes as a search filter for entities, but it doesn't discuss how to return usernotes' fields in the results.
