Missing pages in the XML sitemap

We've started using a site crawler to help improve our SEO. The page count coming back with only around 4,500 pages. We have around 6,500 SKU's listed on our site, so 6,500 unique Drilldown Pages. I did a VLOOKUP between the sitemap and saved search results and found about 2,000 items are missing from the sitemap.

The categories and items are not set to be excluded from the sitemap.

I have not looked at every single item, but I have found categories that contain items that are included in the sitemap and items that are not.

Beyond the Exclude from sitemap checkbox on both category and item records, what else would prevent an item from being included in the sitemap?
