Mailing list signup (without registration)?

I posted this over in the Marketing sub-forum but maybe it's better suited over here....

Is there anyway to setup a mailing list signup (portlet like) built into the layout? I'm aware that people can opt in to our mailer by registering BUT we don't believe that every user needs to register just to get our mailer. Any ideas? I appreciate any and all help! Thanks in advance!
