Customized Homepage

We are new to netsuite and have been plugging away adding items to our website. 
We are now looking customizing our site so that it looks a bit more professional.
we have a website designer but he's asking us questions about our site.
I'm not sure how to answer him. 
What ways could I get them to build a homepage for us?  Or could he also design layouts for other parts of our site.
