Can I add name='' or id='' to images

I'm trying to create an image gallery on some of my item pages. I want a large image and then several thumbnails. When you click a thumbnail, the large image is replaced with a new image. I've found several simple ways to do this, but all require applying either a name or an id to the image.

I cannot figure out how to do this with NetSuite. I use item templates already, so I've been trying to add a name or id to the image tag in my templates.

Here's the tag to place an item image:
