Welcome Tab - Featured Items and Information in different columns

On our Web Store Welcome page we would like to have the featured items and featured information in different columns. Our featured information would contain latest news and we want this in one column, and in a column next to it we would have our featured items listed.

Does anyone know how I might achieve this?
