Descriptive URL / SEO Friendly URL

Would anyone know how the descriptive URL's for category and item can be set to have .html appended to the end of the URL?

When you try to do it in the interface, it is changed to -html.

The reason is three fold:
1) We are a new customer with great SEO rankings for our current site. If we can use the same URL's as our existing site, it will greatly reduce the risk that we will loose position. We understand 301 redirects but it is still a risky proposition to 301.
2) While it is a minor effect, I believe having .html on the end helps with seo. We focus on all the minors we can.
