Linking to parentcategory?

Is there anyway to dynamically link to a parentcategory inside of template?  The only way I've thought of that it could be done is with a history goback(-1).  This is kind of a crappy way to go about things b/c if people find a drilldown category and hit the "Go back to Products : Spill Pallets" it would go back to something completely different.  Anyone know any work arounds?
