Create an autonomous informational page?

This might be a really dumb question... but how do you create a page that is live on the website but doesn't show up as a sub-category in a category page?

For example, I have Category called  "Oranges" and in the description, "Oranges are a nice fruit that are grown in <link>Florida</link> blah blah blah..." And I want to create an informational link to "Flordia". It's not a subcategory of anything. It's an autonomous informational page. I've created informational items, but I don't see a way to publish them without attaching them to a category?
