Item Attribute to distinguish Matrix from Reg. from Info. from KB.. etc....???

Would like to know if there is a simple variable that I am not aware of that can identify the type of item ... ie. GetAttribute, GetCurrentAttribute

I need to know if the item is a Matrix(Parent), Regular Item, Kit, Info Item, etc...

Currently creating code that is very precarious based on certain elements and clues fprovided in native Netsuite code...

Any insight would be appreciated.
