SCA Mont Blanc - Getting a Custom Field from a Customer Record onto a non-secure Domain

Hey all, I'm a greenhorn developer working in Mont Blanc. I'm attempting to get a custom field from the customer record visible in the Cart so that I can use it to make a handlebar directed message appear if that custom field, which is a checkbox, is checked. Does anyone know if this is possible? It seems the profile model is restricted if not being accessed in the secure checkout domain, and I am wanting to find out if anyone else has attempted/been successful pulling additional profile information into the shopping part of the SCA application. Thanks!
