SSP page URLs getting a 404 response

Having previously deployed and edited reference cart and my account bundles, I'm now trying to get my head around SSP pages and to see what functionality I can gain using the Commerce API. Unfortunately, I seem to be failing at the first hurdle and can't get even a "Hello world" type page working in sandbox.

I've created a new SSP application, set the URL path, uploaded files in the application folder (available without login) but if I access an SSP script file URL I get a 404 response.

Can anyone suggest what I might be missing?
