Custom Field in Fulfillment Transaction?

OK, so I've been shot down by NetSuite support on this, but I'm convinced that there's got to be a way...

I would like to have a custom field on fulfillment transaction that shows text based on the department as identified on the sales order.

I've tried CASE statements, but they don't work.

Any ideas?
