Class field on Customer Record

I can see the Class field as an option in searches of the Customer record and I can see that when it is blank, it is overwriting the Product Class field on transactions when I change the Customer.  However, I'm not able to figure out how to enable the Class field on any of the customer forms.  I suppose I could set it with a script, but I'd like to have it displayed as well.  Is this just a limitation of NetSuite (I mean by design).
