Guaranteed Commissions

What is the best way to handle a guaranteed commission arrangement.

We have some new sales staff who have a guaranteed commission for their first few quarters but they still have an underlying commission calc  For example the salesperson may be on a 3% commission rate on sales but they are guaranteed $5000 for the quarter.

What is the best way to handle this?
