Commissions reversing on discontinued items!! NOT GOOD...

I have a sales rep set to receive a negative commission this month. Upon further investigation, here is what happened:

1. We inactivated an item
2. Later we updated the commission schedule because we had added a new item
3. The inactive items were not on the schedule and when we hit save, the system removed commission from the inactive items and therefore recalculated all of the past commissions (that were already paid) for the inactive items to zero. Thus creating a negative commission for our sales people now.

I logged a ticket with support and they said that this is how the system is designed and that there is an enhancement request:
