Ridiculous that defect can't be fixed in SANDBOX

Can someone tell me the purpose of having a sandbox?
Isn't that for testing and making sure that everything is ok before pushing out to the LIVE account?

Now, I have found some bugs in the Sandbox and has a known S1 defect filed however, I was told that because the defect is in the Sandbox account, nothing could be done to it (Because it is only a sandbox and not a LIVE account).

Now I am stuck because I cannot implement the new feature in the LIVE account because I cannot finish testing, due to the defect!
And in order to fix the defect, I have to enable the new feature in the LIVE account which will then cause the defect for it to be fixed.
