Serial Numbers for Kit/Assembly Items - No Hope?

edited Nov 26, 2019 8:38AM in Accounting / ERP 1 comment

Hello. I spent hours on the phone with Netsuite and searched these forums, but could not find an satisfactory answer to this issue.

Is there any way to receive a kit or group of items from a manufacturer and enter the item serial numbers so they can be tracked?

I thought that using assemblies instead of kits was the answer.  It turns out that assemblies are good for items you assemble out of individual components, but worthless if you are buying preassembled kits.  We are only concerned with serial number tracking throughout our process.  As an organization, we sell very expensive items (individual items as well as the same items grouped into kits). We need to account for those items as they came to us, and after they have been sold.  We need to trace item receipts to reconcile service/repair requests, and need to account for item serial numbers
