Removing Options from Matrix Item

We sells cabinets that come in different styles, sizes, and colors. We use a matrix item to manage those cabinet products. The manufacturer has discontinued two of the door styles which eliminates about 400 sub-items. When I remove the two door styles from the list and upate the matrix I get this error -

The following matrix subitems exist but aren't included in the options you just specified. On the Matrix tab, please make sure the options you select include all existing subitems:

So my question is how to remove options from a matrix item?
