Saved Search on Activity Duplicating Information on Grouping

A colleague has created an Activity Saved Search to count the number of activities by type and with certain character codes in the title:

When I view the search results in the detail screen they appear correct with 14 'BDV' events listed and totalled correctly at the bottom:

But the summary shows a total of 38 for this staff member (the bottom line below)

I know it is difficult to see what is happening as I've had to black out all the names etc. but I have worked out that the activities with a contact on are being counted 3 times in the summary, and if an activity doesn't have a contact it is counted twice in the summary.
