Customer Name/ID

I have an employee who entered the first/last name of the new customer and then would add an extra space in the Name/ID.  When I created a search for customers added during a time frame, it doesn't show the extra space so I can corret it.  It seems that if I do a search for "  " (double space) nothing comes up. How can I search or find easily the customer ID name?  Is there a way that I can approve all new customers added? If so, would that prevent them from creating an estiamte and/or event until I actually approve it?
