Use Rich Text field in Advanced HTML/PDF or xml Render

Can I add a Rich-Text field to a transaction or custom record and then pull that field into a printed PDF? I'm getting all kinds of errors. The issue I am trying to solve is, I'd like to allow users to format text in a form and the print that formatted text along with other fields. Looking for Bold, order lists, unordered lists etc. It looks like it is not possible to allow users to use the rich-text formatting tools and then print using a custom template.
