How do I call a map/reduction script with a user event script?

Currently I have a user event script that the previous developer left me and it is exceeding the governance usage points. What I'm thinking of trying is to extract the aftersubmit function within the user event script and put it in the map/reduce script.

I want to extract the aftersubmit because that is where the governance usage exceeded is occurring. Any tips would be greatly appreciated.
