Why Customer Deposit doesn't reduce Sales Order Balance

Greetings,

When Customer deposit is attached to the sales order why doesn't deposit reduce the sales order balance? for example the sales order is for 20,000 and customer paid 10,000 deposit, the sales order still shows 20,000. also Open sales order Amount shows full amount. how do we account for the down payment or deposit.
