Is it possible to make an advance payment to a Vendor with Vendor Prepayment and then use JornalEntr

Is it possible to make an advance payment to a Vendor with Vendor Prepayment and then use JornalEntry to reduce the balance?

Normally, after creating a Vendor Prepayment, I would associate it with a Bill Payment and collapse the balance, but is it possible to link the Vendor with a JournalEntry and reduce the balance instead?
