How to use estimates for forecasting numbers of items and not amounts

I have a question regarding implementing a forecasting function in NetSuite. Our goal is to track and compare the estimated number of items expected to be sold with the actual sales during a specific period, segmented by customer or customer group.
This functionality is critical for maintaining optimal stock levels—ensuring we can deliver orders on time and in full, without overstocking and incurring unnecessary inventory costs.
