MRP and outstanding orders question

Hi,

My team is looking to implement MRP soon and there our NetSuite account has some outstanding purchase and work orders that have not been closed. I was wondering if it was necessary to close these before implementing MRP or if they would be taken into account when calculating the supply and demand plans. Is there a time frame after which an order would not be factored into planning? We have some of these going back a few years but there are not that many compared to the fully processed orders.
