NSC | Asset Depreciation > How Sum-of-Years' Digits Depreciation Works
The Sum-of-Years’ Digits (SYD) depreciation method is a form of accelerated depreciation. It allows a business to depreciate an asset more heavily in its earlier years of use, with smaller depreciation amounts applied in later years. This method is more aggressive than the Straight-Line method but less so than the Declining Balance method.
NetSuite supports SYD as a depreciation method for fixed assets when organizations want to match higher depreciation expenses with higher revenues typically generated early in an asset’s useful life.
When to Use SYD Depreciation | The Sum-of-Years’ Digits method is ideal when:
- An asset is expected to provide higher economic benefits in its early years.
