Inline HTML Transaction Line Field Doesn't Display in EDIT Mode?

Hello—

We recently added a transaction line field (WO Stat) to our Sales Orders to provide users a quick visual cue on the status of the Work Order attached to that line. This works as intended when VIEWING a record:


However, that field does not render when EDITING an order:


Is this by design? Or do we need to define our field in a special or different way? I have tried placing the field in a different position in the sublist, but this makes no difference.
