We have structured our inventory hierarchically so reports are easier to read. For example: Collar Collar : Dog Collar Collar : Dog Collar : Leather Collar : Dog Collar : Gold Plated Collar : Cat Collar : Collar : Cat Collar : Diamond Studded Collar : Cat Collar : Rubber You get the idea. Given the above example we would…

We need to have two different roles that can EDIT different sections of the Item record/form:

Role 1 -- Can EDIT all Item data except Pricing/Price Levels
Role 2 -- Can VIEW all data, but EDIT ONLY Item Pricing/Price Levels
How can I do this? I have tried the following without success:

Role…

After months of trying we still can't figure out a way to do this. I need to submit an ER for this. NetSuite, just so you understand the need for this, in larger companies, particularly manufacturing companies, you will have two separate groups/depts that deal with inventory items:

Engineering/R&D -- own the…

John, Thanks for your feedback and suggestions. I have tried to address your questions below. I'm not sure about all of your issues, but regarding the first one, couldn't you just manually edit the Column Label that states "Quantity On Hand" to "Quantity On Hand: Stock" if you choose Stock as the Units selection? If all…

I don't know of any way of viewing the "FIFO layers". Perhaps someone from NetSuite will jump in and tell us how to do this. If you have enabled multi-location inventory (MLI), and have setup your POs and Item Receipt forms to record the Location at the Line Item level, you should be able to generate various Inventory…

Just add two separate Line Items on the IA form, one for each Lot.

Not to open a can of worms here, but if you are receiving more than what is on the PO, how are you handling the reconciliation of "Inventory received not billed" account. . Julie, Thanks for the heads-up. We are in the process of implementing NetSuite and so we haven't actually experienced this case yet. I will do some…

Field 3= Transaction : Item Rate, Group Theresa, Thanks for sharing this complicated Saved Search. I'm having one problem: The result field Item Rate cannot be grouped. Please edit the search and omit this field or use a different summary function Any ideas on how to fix?

...This is what one of my support team members who specializes on Inventory Management has to say: ... Mark, This is very helpful. Could you please make sure this gets into the Online Help and Inventory Guide PDF. Thanks.

Thanks for your support and suggestions David. The more people express these kind of concerns/needs, the more likely NetSuite is to take action.

Dear JMUderwood: Your follow-up question is a rather difficult one. It is dependent upon many variables/factors. The simple answer is to create a journal entry to offset any "double entry" that might occur vis a vis creating paychecks for the employees that performed the labor. Brian, It is for this reason that modeling…

Has anyone implemented or knoe how to implement an employee inventory requistion approval workflow as follows oyomo, Take a look at the NetSuite Work Order. This is probably not a perfect fit for you needs, but it may help you get started. The WO requires an Assembly Item which has a BOM. The Inventory Items you want to…

I have filed the following requesting an ER: Case: 767548. I will post the ER# as soon as I have it.. An ER still has NOT been filed for this case. I can't believe the below response that I received from the Support Rep. It shows a total misunderstanding of the issue: I have checked the backend of your customer's account…

The best way to account for labor when defining Assembly/BOM records is to create labor as a “Service for Purchase” item type. Brian, Thanks for your reply. In this approach, how would I offset the payroll expense for the labor so that labor is not recorded twice as an expense/COGS?

NetSuite has finally filed an ER for this: Enhancement 133822 - Inventory Item > Inventory tab > Locations Subtab > to be able to have an additional label to display the Unit of Measure on the header of the Quantity On Hand, Quantity On Order, Quantity Committed, Quantity Available, and Quantity Back Ordered The…

Cecelia, Thanks for the detailed post. This is very helpful. I have a few questions for everyone. If you use an Inventory Item for manufacturing labor:

How do you initialize the labor inventory?

Normally one would purchase RM before it is used in an assembly.
Since you don't "purchase" labor (for…

Malin, Thanks for taking the time to reply. The issues you pointed out are clearly the ones we need to address. Fortunately, we are using a very robust warehouse management system (WMS) which will be keeping very accurate record of the Lots, qty, and location, and reporting that data to NetSuite as material moves in and…

In addition to providing UOM to lot numbered inventory, have you considered an option for the UI for lots, so that when you click the dropdown menu it shows not only which lots are available but also the quantities? David, Great idea! It has my vote.

On the PO you print, can you add columns for "Qty Received" in addition to "Qty Ordered"?
-
Mo, Thanks for the suggestion. It sounds very interesting, but I'm not sure I fully understand your approach. If you have the time to provide more details it would be most appreciated. I have inserted a few questions below. I would setup "Inventory Items" and use them in the assemblies.

Since Inventory Items…

Mark, If you are talking about the automatic update of sale prices of assembly items when any of their component members has an increase in cost, then I do not believe that NetSuite, out-of-the-box, can do this. We have a client who faces a very similar issue. The conclusion we have come to is that the current best…

Ray We are the manufacturer of the product. Some materials we use need to be processed with other materials, however due to confidentiality issues we can not have these materials drop shipped to our vendor who processes them. We purchase material A and enter it as a raw material We send it out and it is processed with…

Peter, Thanks for the update. Some questions:

When is the "coming release"?
Will this include UOM support for Assembly Items?
Will we be able to convert/upgrade existing items to use UOM?
Thanks.

We found too many issues and unknowns concerning how NS treats Lots to be comfortable with it, so we decided to implement our own custom lot tracking. It is going OK so far, but it is still a work in progress.

Does anyone know if serial numbers can be auto generated? As a workaround, could you create a custom record which auto creates a new ID number. You can set the autonumber format to provide the desired format. Then simply add a new customer record and copy the ID into the Serial Number field using a script. Would this work?

In the upcoming 2008.2 version, there will be a new Assembly Cost calculation functionality, that will tell you the total cost based on members. So you would then just be missing a small script to transfer that value into the item's cost field. Olivier, This sounds very interesting. I could not find any info about this new…

I am looking for a way to create relationships among these items so we can convey the product choices that can be grouped together appropriately. Creating a kit won't work as we don't want to "pre-bundle" the items. Looking for suggestions. Thanks! Have you considered using Item Groups? You could create an Item Group,…

Hi Jim, COGS Account for your Lot-numbered Assembly Item is mandatory. You can't save it without selecting one. ... COGS Account is used only when Selling the Item (or Fulfilling). Since you said that it's a WIP, COGS will never be used in relation with this item, at least not until you sell it by itself. -- Butch Butch,…

Looks like this issue applies to Work Orders as well. When you view a list of Work Orders or Assembly Builds, it does NOT display the Assembly Item. When I click on "modify view", it is, of course, a Transaction Search. And, of course, there is no Search field for the "Assembly Item" that is displayed and selected on the…
