Actually, the solution came from a consultant in another forum. In the tax settings "Enable Tax Lookup on Sales Transactions" was unchecked. Once this is checked, Tax Code field will auto-populate. Thank you all for your time and answers.

Hi @Avinash A Even I had a code, how do I set that without UI? When UI requires this field we can enter by hand, but I cannot find a way to set it otherwise (i.e. in a script or workflow)

Thank you for the answers. As I understand it does update the customer ID field itself so if there are any mappings on a 3rd party system that does not rely on Internal ID but this customer ID then it would be affected.
