Edit email address on Candidate using pre-processing script in Candidate net-change

We are trying to use a non-key field in pre-processing step to append to the emailid, but without success. Has anyone accomplished this successfully? See details below

In Taleo candidate net change process, we have pre-processing script to append the employee ID with term email address (Sample: Terminated<employeeID>@invalid.com) to identify terminated employees. Till today we are using employee ID as key value and hence we are doing it with below scripting
