Prepare mass additions automatically

I am trying to setup this feature so mass addition prep time can be minimized or reduced. But I am not sure how to interpret the lookup types and values. If anyone has successfully enabled this feature, can you please shed some light on this?
Prepare Additions Automatically does the following
1. Derives Depreciation Expense account automatically for the mass additions. This works only for null values as it does not override any existing value.
2. It also derives the category if each category combination has unique clearing account
