Correct Location flexfield using HDL

Hi All,
We had a flexfield configured on the location called GL Code. Now we want to correct some locations using HDL so that these locations with missing GL code can be added. Now I have a query.
1.Can we correct locations using HDL so that these locations have correct GL code.
2.What precautions we need to take while correcting locations. Can we use merge line and provide only the GL or we have to populate the entire details of these locations again while correcting.
Need some inputs so that this task happens smoothly.
