Add fields to custom content type after mapping conversion

Hello,
We have already completed our migration to the enhanced talent profile. I have a custom content type which was migrated over to the education content template. We now would like to add the delivered Schools / Educational Establishments field with LOV into this content type but I can't get it to work.
The My Client Groups / Profiles / Content Types configuration pages do not seem to have any effect on my custom mapped content types, is this expected behavior? I tried to just add the field using the content types page but it never appears. I also tried to manually make the field visible using page composer, but this causes the field to show up across all of my content types using the education content type template.
