Summary:

Compute instance IPv6 additional VNIC stop working after some hours of working as expected. After reboot everything goes back to normal.

Content (required):

I have IPv6 configured on some VM.Standard.A1.Flex compute instances. IPv6 is configured on a primary VNIC and and on an additional VNIC as well.

  • Everything regarding IPv6 security lists, ip tables and others are configured to allow traffic including ICMP6 requests, ssh. (Basically for troubleshooting this issue I allowed all traffic).
  • IPv6 addresses for both primary and additional VNIC work well for a while. After some hours, the IPv6 address of the additional VNIC does not work anymore. Ping does not work ("Request timed out") or any other attempt to use that IPv6 address for that matter.
