How do you remove a node type from an Active hierarchy set?

Summary:

As part of a change to some existing hierarchy sets, additional node types were added. Now that the development is completed we have the need to remove one of the node types that had been added.

Since the hierarchy set is active, there does not appear to be a method to remove the unwanted node type.

Is there a documented (or undocumented) method to remove a node type from a hierarchy set so it does not get migrated with the dimension template?
