How to add soft return in data upload?

Hi, I uploaded a list with a custom field that contains <br> tags within the cell.

But they are rendering in the preview as <br> and not soft returns.

For some recipients I need to list one client name, for others, I need to list 15+ client names. But I need to be from one field.

Any idea how I would handle this?
