Price Books Associations: Assignment and Use

Summary:

I'm not seeing how the prices from Price Book Associations get used or how to use them.

Content (required):

I've been asked to investigate the potential of storing pricing data in the Price Book/Price Book Entry object of our connected Salesforce org. I'm curious if I can add additional columns/fields to the price book entries/associations in CPQ, like with parts, but more importantly, I am not seeing how the price book associations actually get used in config or elsewhere.

All the documentation I've found has got me to the point of importing the price book and its entries from Salesforce, but I haven't seen anything specify where the associated price book values end up once I create the configuration. The only relevant attribute I have found is the price book name in config, which I've confirmed is getting selected. I have an example I'm trying to test with that has a unique value of $49,999.99, and I am not seeing that value appear anywhere in the Document XSL. Is there an additional step I am missing, or is there
