Future Dated Project Approval

I have setup a project which starts in the future, this start date upon project creation cascades to Project Manager Resource and am using the standard project status workflow approval

When I attempt to submit project for approval, I receive the following, but I clearly have a Project manager.

There isn't a project manager as of the server date, which is 10/20/23. Approval workflows will error out if configured to route to the project manager.

When I continue, I then get an error and it seems to be because the Project Manager does not start until a future date but the workflow is looking for today's date for a PM.
