Need to understand the logic for Return to Opportunity

Hi All,
We enabled Fusion Sales and CPQ integration with the pre-built package.
I noticed the the following behavior occurs for some converted opportunity, and this works fine for opportunity created from Sales UI.
1. Create a quote from Opportunity detail page
2. CPQ iFrame is opened in Sales UI
3. Enter detail on CPQ screen then click Save, Submit and Return to Opportunity buttons
4. REST (/crmRestApi/resources/11.13.18.05/salesOrders/****) is called from CPQ to Sales successfully. I validate a field (A) is populated on Quote/Order object in Sales.
5. Check field (B) on opportunity object. The value populated on A is not populated on field B. This only happens on some converted opp, but not new opp.
